- Checkering A whole web site could be dedicated to this alone. I personally love to checker. The more the better. Nothing is as satisfying as checkering, whether a simple pattern or more complex, nothing rounds out a custom firearm like a tasteful pattern. Ask for quotes. In the pictures on this page Ive included some prices to help give an idea about cost.
- Wood Two web sites wouldnt begin to cover this subject. My biggest complaint about my profession is there is NO industrial standard when it comes to grading wood. Ive seen the same piece described using three common terms (fiddle back, tiger stripe and curly) Wood is a love of mine and Ive spent years enjoying everything I could find to read about it, learn what causes certain types of figure to form. Fancy, AA, AAA, XX, XXX could mean 5 different things, or all the same. I prefer to use percentages. 25% figure is common among semi-fancy woods. 50% figure is common among fancy woods. 75%, extra fancy and so on. FIGURE is subjective enough as it is. Commonly- Figure includes both color, and textures. 25% blank will have one quarter of the stock with either odd textures, or varying colors, or both! Rare is the request for plain walnut. If youre trying to save some money, dont scrimp on the blank. I have attempted to use the pics on this page to help you understand how I grade wood. My blank prices are extremely competitive. Often, all too often blanks that have been sent to me priced much higher than I would have sold it for. Do your wallet a favor and contact me.
- Claro will run 50.00 to 500.00
- English will run 200.00 to well over a thousand
- Eastern Black Walnut- I am seeking sources now- about the same as Claro, but denser grained
- Creating a pattern for your action 350.00
- 50% (nonrefundable once work starts) deposit required for work to start
- All changes must be in writing. Otherwise I will follow the original work order
- I will willingly use any blank shipped to me, however upon inspection the shops responsibility ends if a substandard blank is encountered regardless of the price the customer paid for. I fully stand behind ALL blanks I sell.
